PostSubject: New UI Help   New UI Help I_icon_minitimeTue Jan 19, 2010 8:30 pm

I'm looking to get a new UI, like Red's, Lankys or Kittys. But Im not sure where to start and how to go about it. Any help will be appreciated and I am willing to learn how to use it. I wanted to get it now while my priest is low lvl so I can lvl with it and get used to it so by the time I get to 80 it will be pro status. I will be needing the standard basic mods such as gearscore, deadlyboss, atlas loot, any good priest mods (exp for shadow) and maybe recount in there. Again any help on this matter will be appreciated.

My suggestions are:
Bartender: action bar addon, gives you up to 10 fully customizeable actionbars to fill with buttons macros and whatever.
Atlas+Atlas loot: 'cus looking at the phat loots while waiting for boss dialog is fun
Questhelper: I still don't think the bliz one cuts it, plus QH links into...
Gatherer: which gives you a nice arrow for QH, and is awesome for gathering profs
DBM: Deadly Boss Mod, best boss mod
Prat: chat addon
Grid: compact and massively configurable raid frame addon
Quartz: great castbar addon
Xpearl / Pitbull: Xpearl is easier to use, pitbull has more options, both do the same thing (unit frame replacement)
Power Auras: visual alert addon
Forte Xorcist: Havn't used it but I hear it's good for shadowpriests

I don't know what resolution you run at, but if it's 1680 x 1050 consider checking out aliena's UI (priest from tankspot)

My suggestions are:
(visual suggestions only - i left atlas, QH, etc.. off the list)

Bartender: action bar addon, gives you up to 10 fully customizeable actionbars to fill with buttons macros and whatever.
Chatter: chat addon
Grid: compact and massively configurable raid frame addon
AzCastBar: great castbar addon
Shadowed Unit Frames: Light wieght unit frames(low mem usage), easy to configure.
Minimap Button Frame: Collects and Groups minimap buttons in many shapes and optionally hides them during combat etc.
Parrot: Floating Combat Text replacement. Very tidy, can manage procs and hardly any/no configuring needed.
Fubar: Pretty sure everyone knows that that is.
Sexy Map: or any other map addon that allows you to move and resize map.

Not sure what proc monitor to use but defs use one. Power Auras I hear is good. I use a mage only one called Mage Nuggets.

and finally, the addon I favour most of all
Lunar Sphere: My fav and msot useful addon. Replaced my bars, is tidy, each button can do different things depending on which mouse button is clicked.

Cant think of any more.

I build mine gradually. I'd think "I want an addon that does X" and then get that. Over the whole time I've been playing. But after a few days you should be pretty comfortable with a completely new interface I'd say. espcially if you move things around as you play to fit better etc..

This is my new UI, a little tough getting used to but def a lot easier for play. I might get rid of Mikscrollingbattletext due to the fact my dots go to fast and it get clustered on the side of the screen. I am still working on it to see if I get more comfortable, but if not taking that off. I have as you will see the pics, that one Lunar mod red told me about. I have it put off to the side for quick easy access to spells that I need on the run. Mod works fairly decent for PvP as well, due to not 80 I cant say how it fairs in Raids. Give me a few weeks and we can get it to try.

Any extra help or inputs are again appreciated!

I would:
>Shrink your action bars a bit and dock then at the bottom of your screen.
>Resize the buff icons and align them differently, I mean, you have 5 active there,
you'll have easily 15 things there while raiding.
>configure grid a little more and consider relocating it to a place you can see without moving your eyes far from your character
>Consider a unitframe addon
>Consider configuring the minimap to be more practical than pretty

Heres mine with the maelos UI with some alterations

What you see:
to the immediate right of my character is power auras I've set up for my druid, they show what hots I have on my target and their duration/stacks, and above that are my druids cooldowns which are visible when the skill is usable, but is replaced by a timer when used (in that image I have 13 secs of rejuv, 7 secs or regrowth, 7 seconds of 2 stacks of life bloom, and 4 seconds till swiftmend is up).

Then right of that is my grid. I have all my boss timers, /range and that kind of stuff on my characters left. This way I can monitor the fight, the raid and ensure I'm not standing in the fire ALL AT THE SAME TIME!! Which is the ultimate goal of any raid healers UI.

EDIT: also, you may want to check this out: http://www.hotsdots.com/2009/10/improving-the-interface-with-addons-fortexorcist-dot-monitor/

You are using a full desktop and full monitor right? Mine looks more compact due to ne playing on my Laptop. I will look into adjusting to some of your specifics, but again due to size and area of my screen I only have so much I can work with. As soon as I start playing on my desktop it will be a lot easier to adjust and to situate.

Ok so this is for you Shroom, or anyone else interested.... Hahaha having bad internet and a will to catch up to awesome people, Ive learned a lot of info on mods and raids and such!

Altoholic - Mod to see cross char bags, inventory, gold, equipment, etc. Also does cross guild and other useful information.

Atlas Loot - Mod to see what drops in what dung, raid and to view gear.

Bartender4 - Mod to add more action bars, works hand in hand with my UI

ClassTimer - Used for any spells or skill that you need a quick timer on.... such as DoTs, HoTs or anything else alike.

Deadly Boss Mods - Allows for raid warning during raid or dung boss fights *must have*

Gear Score - Quick and easy way to see your char/targets gear score.

KillStreak - I used to be a huge halo fan so my mod to tell me when I get "Head Shots" and "Triple Kills" LOLZ

MFClip - Great mod for Shadow Priest, allowing for a decrease in casting time delays and allows for rotation without clipping

MiksScrollingBattleText - Mod for a compressed, close to char list of text that shows incomming spells, dmg and heals, as well as outgoing dmg and a great notifier.

Omen3 - Awesome Threat Meter.... Who knew Shadow pulled so much aggro..... sigh

OPie - Alternative to Lunarsphere, both allowing a quick and easy access of spells, potions, foods around your char.

Outfitter - Like WoW's in game equipment manager, but allows for a quick and simpler way to map out different equipment sets.

Postal - Mailbox features.

Power Auras Classic - Can do anything from give a heads up aura to what spell was cast, to if your entering combat, to being me and when ever I shadow weave I get wings LOLZ

Prat 3.0 - Awesome mod for chat, that allows for easy chatting wether it be in guild, whis or say.

PvP Trinket Tracker - While in BG's or Arena, shows what trinkets have been used and the cool down on all trinkets.

QuestHelper - As lanky said, ingame WoW one is just missing something.

Spartan UI - Nice graphic UI that sets up your bartender for a nice, quick access to all spells and abilities.

Talented - Like WoWHeads Talent generator, it wont let you choose to place a point into a talent without an ok!

XLoot - Upgraded loot table, basically same WoW principal, but made pretty....

Well Shroom, thats everying I use..... Also i would try maybe quartz or another spell bar for your mage. Hope it helps Smile thank to lanky, red, kitty and curse!

Glad it helps, just remember to add some fun to it. I think if you have just a straight serious UI you'll do well but when it comes to the fun factor I believe it takes away from it. Too many boxes, charts or anything else to look at gets boring. Thats why I have the KillStreak and some other funny mods, like insults when i die haha. Smile anyone need any help just let me know on here or you can reach me at delaurm@ddg54.navy.mil (one thing I ask is just no spam, plz it is my work email)
